biografische angaben: Patlán is one of the leaders of the contemporary mural renaissance in the United States, and his earliest work had its roots in the Mexican barrio of Chicago's Pilsen area. He studied at the School of the Art Institute, where he also became an instructor, and spent time in Mexico studying the work of the great Mexican muralists. Returning in 1969 from fighting in the Vietnam War, he began to work with yourng people in Pilsen. While teaching and lecturing at schools including the University of California at Berkeley and Academia San Carlos in Mexico, he directed and participated in numerous mural projects. He moved to San Francisco in 1975.
