biografische angaben: Born 1907 in Marion, Indiana, died 1998. American painter. Studied at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago, the American Academy of Fine Arts, and the Art Students' League, and with George Grosz and Maurice Stern in New York. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1929. He supervised fresco, stained glass and mosaic projects at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago fro 1935 to 1938 for the WPA's Illinois Art Project and created murals for post offices in Rushville and Naperville, Illinois, and in Dearborn, Michigan. A corporate commission took him to South America, where he created a series of paintings of Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. He redrafted older army war maps during World War II, and afterward he returned to industry and business. As a freelance illustrator, he created ads for Marshall Field and company, murals for TWA and the Northern Trust Bank, and paintings and illustrations for books and magazines. Noted for his imaginative watercolors, bennett taught at the School of the Art Institute.
