biografische angaben: Born 1899 in Streator, Illinois, died 1986. He began drawing and carvin peach pits into miniature monkeys when still in elementary school. He became a painter, printmaker, illustrator, cartoonist, designer, author, lecutrer, and teacher. He was educated at the School of the Arts Institute and settled in Chicago, where he lived until he moved to Orlando, Florida, in the 1950s. During the New Deal era, he executed mural commissions for Chicago's main post office and the Lemont, Illinois Post Office, and his work was exhibited at the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition. Working as an illustrator for various commercial firms, he met the young architect Bruce Goff and in 1938 commissioned him to build his house in the northwest suburbs, now given Chicago landmark status. His work is represented in various public collections, and he illustrated a series of books.
