She received her B.A. from Northwestern University, M.A. from the Institute of Design of Illinois Institute of Technology, and M.A. in Spanish from the University of Chicago. She has exhibited widely, lectured, and taught, and her work is in many private collections. For her mural at Sulzer Library, she traveled widely and did extensive research on the fresco technique. Siegel included many quotations from widespread literary sources in her mural, and these and its expressionistic style provoked a controversial response from the community. Siegel recognized the struggle as "a tradition with artists."
