biografische angaben: Born 1862 in Parchim, Germany, died 1944. Scholarships in Munich, berlin, and Düsseldorf. In 1887–88 his panoramic mural The Battle of Gettysburg was exhibited in Chicago. He came from Germany in 1892 to design the interior and execute murals for the German government's building at Chicago's 1893 Workd's Columbian Exposition and chose to remain in the city. Commissioned by the French government in 1931, his panorama Panthéon de la guerre was exhibited at Chicago's 1933 Century of Progress Exposition and the San Francisco Fair before being returned to France. Brand was Chicago city treasurer from 1935 to 1939. He created murals for many public buildings in Chicago and elsewhere.
