biografische angaben: Born 1890 in Grand Haven, Michigan, died 1956. American painter. He studied with John Warner Norton at the School of the Art Institute, and was awarded a scholarship for travel to Europe. He taught painting and drawing at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee for thirty-five years until his death. During 1927–45 he exhibited at Paris salons, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the Carnegie Institute, the National Academy of Design, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Whitney Museum. He was highly praised for his outdoor scenes of Wisconsin, which were also exhibited in New York.
