biografische angaben: Born 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama. American painter. He grew up in Los Angeles. Summer scholarship to the Otis Art Institute with Charles White during junior high school. He entered Otis after high school and receuved his B.F.A. in 1977. After a two-year stay in New York as artist in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem from 1985 to 1987, he moved to Chicago, whre he now lives. The recipient of a MacArthur "genius grant,", Marshall has been associate professor of art at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 1993.
