biografische angaben: Born August 29, 1936, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. American muralist who is best known for architectural murals and his use of the trompe l'oeil style.

Haas has been interested in architecture since his hoyhood, when he helped his uncle, who worked as a stonemason at Frank Lloyd Wright's school Taliesin. He studied painting at the University of Wisconsin and earned his M.F.A. at the University of Minnesota. Architectural references appeared in his work from the very beginning. Moving to New York in 1968, he began making diorama models of his Soho neighborhood. His printmaking reflected his continuing interest in cityscapes, but he painted his first large-scale mural on the blank wall of a building in the middle 1970s, duplicating the design of its front facade. Using "walls as his canvases," Haas creates trompe l'oeil murals that pay tribute to architects of earlier times and express his own ideas on architecture and urban planning.
