biografische angaben: Born 1858 in Bern, Switzerland, died 1938. Swiss-born designer, muralist, mosaicist, interior designer, and sculptor. He was a student of Fournier in Paris. He settled in New York, where he worked with the American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and John La Farge, who, with Louis Tiffany pioneered stained glass in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Primarily a mural painter, Holzer was the designer of the Tiffany mosaic murals in the Marquette Building and also much of the Tiffany mosaic work in the Chicago Cultural Center and Mashall Field Department Store.
