biografische angaben: Born 1848 in Le Havre, France, died about 1932. Franco-american muralist, painter, and teacher. Studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Although his early training was in architecture, he soon turned to painting. He came to the United States in 1888 and settled in Chicago a year later, shere he taught and exhibited at the Art Institute. His many scenes of the city are painted in a dreamy, impressionistic style.
