Do you know Professor Baca?

Judy Baca, Tujunga Wash

Ms Judy Baca, professor of World Arts and Cultures in the School of Art and Architecture of the University of California, engraved her name into the history of post-muralism as the initiator of maybe the largest mural of the world, the 2'754 feet long History of California (1976–84) on the side walls of the Tujunga wash in San Fernando Valley. She can be considered a member of the «Chicano» (nationalist) movement. Her conveying the symbolism of mexican muralism (she even spent a time in David Siqueiros' workshop) and her devotion to the sake of those who where the first inhabitants of Los Angeles point to that. On the other hand, her social principle of operation is bare of any segregating element.
