«Luis Quintanilla was sent to the United States in January of 1939 by Dr. Juan Negrín, then Premier of Spain, to paint a monumental mural for the Spanish Government to be hung in the Spanish Pavilion at the New York World's Fair. Painted in five panels of pure Fresco, the mural, taking its theme from the Spanish Civil War, is titled 'Love Peace and Hate War' and depicts successively Soldiers, Flight, Pain, Hunger, and Destruction. Because of the change of governments in Spain, the mural was not hung at the Fair. It is being shown for the first time in Quintanilla's exhibition at the Associated American Artists' Galleries.» (From the AAA catalogue, 1939)
